There are a couple things I meant to share with you, but forgot. \ud83d\ude42\u00a0 When I was talking with my surgeon before the procedure, I was thinking it would be cool to keep the ball that they hack off the top of my femur. I had heard from a neighbor that a friend of his had kept his and used it as the top of a cane. Sounded like a cool project, so I asked. The doc smiled and said that this wasn\u2019t allowed in Colorado. He said he thought it was a good idea too and that he had fought for it, but failed. Then he smiled and said, \u201cso I just take them home and feed them to my dog.\u201d We both got a good laugh out of that!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, I think that the final product looks really cool, so I wanted to show you the x-ray. Check it out. I figure when I die, and I get cremated, my kids will have a really sweet weapon. I mean, look at that thing!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ok, that\u2019s IT for the hip.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Today we\u2019re taking a look at a benefit that may sound familiar \u2014 because it <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> familiar \u2014 but with one little update: the Voluntary Life Insurance Plan through Prudential. (music)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This benefit has been available to Wyoming Retirement members for years, but after a short pause, it\u2019s being reintroduced with one important change. I\u2019ll explain that in just a moment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is a voluntary life insurance benefit available to all active WRS contributing members.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s\u00a0 issued by Prudential, administered by an outfit called Member Benefits, and available through the National Conference on Public Employee Retirement Systems \u2014 or NCPERS. Not an important detail, but dems the facts. \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The plan is designed to give you guaranteed-issue life insurance, which means:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No medical exams<\/span>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No health questions<\/span>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And you cannot lose coverage because of age or health changes<\/span>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Payouts start at a higher amount when you\u2019re younger (when debt and such tends to be greater) and gradually decreases as you age \u2014 but the premiums stay the same the whole time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The cost is a flat $16 per month \u2014 it never increases, regardless of your age.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That $16 includes:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><b> Group Decreasing Term Life Insurance<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Show coverage chart)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Depending on your age at the time of claim, the benefit ranges from $225,000 (When you are under age 25) down to $7,500 (for those of you age 65+).<\/span><\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><b> Accidental Death &amp; Dismemberment<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (AD&amp;D)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This adds up to $100,000 more for accidental death for most age brackets.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><b> Coverage for your spouse\/domestic partner and dependent children<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spousal coverage varies by your age, up to $20,000, and dependent children are covered for $4,000.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li><b> Student Loan Protection Benefit<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re 45 or younger, and you become totally disabled with an outstanding student loan balance, Prudential may reimburse up to $50,000.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Ok, so what has changed?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is the part that\u2019s new:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you enroll going forward, you\u2019ll pay premiums by either:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Monthly automatic bank draft, or<\/span>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Annual direct bill<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>So, you can\u2019t do payroll deduction.<\/b><b><br \/><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you already have this coverage from before August 2024, nothing changes \u2014 your premiums will continue through payroll deduction, just like before.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Everything else about the plan stays the same \u2014 same price, same coverage structure, same benefits.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, who can enroll and when?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All active Wyoming Retirement contributing members can enroll:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Within 90 days of your hire date, or<\/span>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During Open Enrollment, every year from October 1 through November 30.<\/span>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you enroll during either of these windows, your coverage begins on the first day of the month following your first payment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are a few other features that are worth mentioning with this program:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0If you become totally disabled before age 60, premiums may be waived.<\/span>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You may access up to 50% of your benefit if you\u2019re diagnosed as terminally ill.<\/span>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And finally, coverage can continue into retirement<\/span><b>. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As long as you\u2019re insured as an active member and keep receiving benefits through WRS, you can simply have premiums deducted from your retirement check.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now keep in mind that the benefit is only $7500 when you turn 65, so it\u2019s up to you to decide if it\u2019s worth continuing to pay for that or not.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alright, so how do you enroll\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You\u2019ll need to complete an enrollment and beneficiary form:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Visit<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ncpers.memberbenefits.com\/wyo\/\"> <b>ncpers.memberbenefits.com\/wyo<\/b><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From this page, you can learn more about the plan by clicking on \u201cPlan Details,\u201d or you can complete the enrollment form online by clicking \u201cApply Now.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For questions, Member Benefits can be reached at <\/span><b>800-525-8056<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or <\/span><a href=\"mailto:NCPERS@memberbenefits.com\"><b>NCPERS@memberbenefits.com<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remember, this plan is guaranteed-issue, so no one is going to ask about your missing parts or your future plans for getting a titanium weapon installed in your body.
